Art in the park
Walsall's New Deal is working with the Friends of Leamore Park and Walsall Council to create a public art feature for Leamore Park and is asking local people to come forward to contribute their ideas to the project.
The Friend's of Leamore Park have taken on the role of steering group for the project. Artist Tim Ward of Circling the Square has been commissioned to set up and deliver a series of workshops with local people who live around the park. The workshops have involved a large variety of local groups such as the three local schools that adjoin the park, the Pinfold Day Centre, Youth Groups, St Johns Arts Club and open sessions for local people in the area. The enthusiasm and interest shown from the community has been truly outstanding as local people of all ages have put together ideas for an arts piece that emphasises the local heritage of the area.
Tim has now produced six different designs, which will be available to the community for consultation, with the final design being made and installed in the park in the New Year. The following consultation events are opportunities for the community to vote for their favourite piece.
An exhibition featuring the proposals will be available at the following venues from the 17th to the 21st November:
- Blakenall Village Centre
- Stan Ball Centre
- Blakenall Community Centre
- Young Persons information Centre
- Blakenall info Centre
In addition, an exhibition in the pavilion at Leamore Park will be held on Sunday 23rd November from 11:00am to 3.00pm to consult park users.
Ray Walters Chair of the Friends group said; "The sculpture will provide a focal point for the park so we are very keen to involve as many people as possible in the processes leading to the installation of this artwork in our park".
Cllr. Louise Harrison said the views of residents were vital for the success of the scheme.
She said: "This looks like a really great and exciting project. Tim Ward is a really experienced artist who has worked on some great schemes in Walsall.
"It's great that Bloxwich people are being asked what they think about this project. After all, they will be the users of the park.
"We are really proud of our parks and this scheme I'm sure will build pride."

The project is funded by Walsall's New Deal for Communities £20,000.
