'Bloomin Blakenall'!

This year Blakenall will be 'bloomin lovely' as the area has entered in to the Heart of England's In Bloom Competition as a Neighbourhood Awards entry.

Judging for 'Blakenall in Bloom' will take place in July so throughout June the people of Blakenall will be seeing a flurry of activity in preparations for Blakenall's Big Day.

Blakenall in Bloom is being sponsored by Bellway Homes to the tune of £5000 and the campaign is being co-ordinated by New Deal's Neighbourhood Nature team, a locally based environmental project that is supported by local community groups, Christchurch, local schools and children’s centres and local businesses.

Mal Bushell from Blakenall Community Association said:
"Blakenall in Bloom is a real opportunity for all the community - residents of all ages to get involved and play a part in helping to green up Blakenall and to build our community spirit."

A range of activities and events are being planned throughout June, kicking off on 5th of June, World Environment Day, with a plant swap in the centre of Blakenall from 3:30 until 6:30pm.

All of the 'In Bloom' events and activities will be advertised locally and anybody can take part. Julia Morris Neighbourhood Nature Project Officer said:

"The success of our 'In Bloom' campaign depends on local residents supporting our efforts and joining in, we can make a difference and we can achieve an 'outstanding' result with the help of local people".

The Heart of England In Bloom, Neighbourhood Awards are not just about floral displays and making areas look pretty for one day of judging. It is more importantly about achieving sustainable improvements through the involvement of local communities.

If you would like to get involved, donate plants or find out more information about 'Blakenall in Bloom' get in touch with Julia Morris at the Blakenall info Centre 01922 711228.
