Bloxwich CE 'saddles up'....
On week commencing 21st May up to 130 children from Bloxwich CE will be 'saddling up' for cycle lessons with New Deals Schools Link Police Officer, Simon Forscutt....
The young people aged 7 to 11 in Years 3 to 6 will be turning up to school with their bikes and helmets to participate in this week long initiative in Bloxwich Park.
Head teacher, Mr. Martyn Blunt said; "We have had a fantastic response from the children; they are very excited by this opportunity. It will support the Staying Safe, Keeping Fit and Healthy work that the children have been doing in the classroom, giving the children increased awareness of the benefits of cycling".
The 'Cycle School' will be taking place from
Monday 21st to Wednesday 23rd May 1:30pm to 2:45pm and
Thursday 24th - 10:00am to 11:15am and
Friday 25th - 10:30am to 11:45am.
PC Simon Forscutt Blakenall New Deal Schools Link Officer said; "The sessions will be 'off-road' in the park, and will be based on British Cycling's 'Go Ride' activities that cover balance and co-ordination. This initiative will give the children a good grounding in basic bike skills that will enable them to get more fun out of their bicycles, and make them more safety aware".
Inspector Amanda McPhee said; "New Deal has a long tradition of working with the local schools it is essential that we encourage good skills with young people now in order that as they get older they will be more road aware and safer".
The New Deal Wheelers Team; Gail Beeley, Young Persons Liaison Worker, Les Beeley, Community Warden, and Charlie Robertson, Walsall Council Park Support Officer will be helping with the cycle lessons.
