performer..... ..........a drama queen (or king)? Do you fancy learning new skills in dance, drama and music? Well, we have the workshop for you! Starting on Saturday 19th April, Walsall's New Deal Youth Council has organised a series of free Performing Arts Workshops for children and young people. The sessions are being held on Saturdays at the Green Rock Primary School, Mersey Road, in Blakenall, and will be open to children and young people from the New Deal area aged between 8-19 years. The sessions will run from 10.00am to 11.30am for children aged 8-12 years and from 11.45am to 1.15pm for young people aged 13-19 years. The first five Saturdays will begin with a series of taster sessions which will give the young people opportunities to try out activities such as; street dance, special effects make up, stage fighting, music and belly dancing. Following on from the initial taster sessions we will be working with any children and young people who are interested in continuing to develop their skills. This will involve working to create, rehearse and eventually perform a piece that will incorporate some of the skills they have learned. Walsall's New Deal for Communities is a regeneration initiative working in the areas of Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore. The initiative received a £52 million Government grant from the Department for Communities and Local Government (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) to be spent on sustainable regeneration spread over a ten year period that commenced 2001. |
