New Deals,
'eyes in the sky'...

1st in the borough.... Walsall's New Deal's is taking delivery of the latest weapon in the fight against crime.

The Rapid Deployment Mobile CCTV Project gained approval from local residents at a recent New Deal : New Horizons Approvals Meeting.

The partnership has now purchased 3 cameras for the New Deal area that are being targeted for use in parts of Blakenall Bloxwich and Leamore that are suffering from crime and anti-social behaviour.

The high resolution cameras pick up every detail, and can be moved around every 4 - 6 weeks, so that they can be used in other areas of concern and that people do not get used to them. Officers are carefully monitoring the initiative with a view to 'rolling' them out across the borough.

Inspector Amanda McPhee said; "This is a pilot project for Walsall’s New Deal area and the borough, we have worked with and would like to thank a number of agencies for their support; Amey, Walsall Safer Borough Partnership (CCTV department), Walsall Council's Anti-Social Behaviour Team, West Midlands Police, and the Community Warden Service, all of whom have worked hard to get this initiative off the ground".

Inspector McPhee went onto say, "If you behave badly in public you will be caught on camera and you will be prosecuted".
