Children in Need
On Friday 16th November the people of Blakenall and staff of Walsall's New Deal, Walsall Council's Parks Service, Sure Start, and Eurest will be 'dressed up to the nines' to raise money for Children in Need.
Walsall's New Deal are asking the local community as well as schools and local businesses to join them in a range of fundraising activities, beginning with a fancy dress walk starting from the Blakenall Village Centre at 9am and continuing throughout the day until 3pm. The walk has been organised by Walsall's New Deal Board Directors Mervyn Stonard, Doug Gill and Charlie Robertson.
Leamore Park hosts a traditional sports day with egg and spoon, and bean bag races. Teams of 5 are invited to compete to become the 'Sports Day Champions'.
Local schools are being invited to take part between 10am - 12pm with adults and young people over 16 competing from 3.00pm until 5.00pm, light permitting.
Of course New Deal will be entering teams made up of staff and Board Members. Entry to the competition will be £5.00 per team of 5, with all donations given to Children in Need. To register your team please call Blakenall info Centre on (01922) 711228.
Then if you haven't had enough enjoyment dust yourselves down and why not grab a partner and come to the 'New Deal Pudsey's Barn Dance' at Old Bloxwich Baths on Field Close. The event will run from 5.30pm until 9pm and includes a full range of activities like apple bobbing, face painting & Nail Art. The main attraction of the evening is Stephen Woodcock who will perform traditional country & western music and will compare dancing demonstrations. There will be prizes for the best fancy dress.
Refreshments will be available with a BBQ provided by the Horizon's Restaurant Team from Blakenall Village Centre.
At a separate event on Sunday 11th November, New Deal will be aiming to convert unwanted items into £££'s at a local car boot in aid of Children in Need. For further information on items that can be donated please contact Judy White at the Blakenall info Centre on (01922) 711228. Please note: Due to Health and Safety regulations electrical goods cannot be accepted.
Paul Rowlands Chief Executive of the New Deal Partnership said; "Everyone in our community is working together to make this event a great success as can be seen from the range of agencies and local businesses that have come together to create these fun family events which we hope will raise plenty of money for Children in Need".
