Clean Sweep for Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore.
New Deal and Walsall Council have joined forces to take delivery of a new state-of-the-art road sweeper that will benefit thousands of local residents.
The sweeper was purchased after the success of a two-year pilot with a smaller machine which has been working hard to clean the streets and pavements of Blakenall, Leamore and Bloxwich.
Walsall Council will operate and maintain the machine, which complement existing sweepers that the authority runs in the area and help keep the streets of Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore clean.
Alan Venables Chair of the Housing and Environment Theme group said, "This high profile work will further assist in the regeneration of our area and complements the work already undertaken in our district centres. With the new Blakenall Village Centre, refurbished shopping areas in Blakenall and Bloxwich and the new Housing Developments Walsall's New Deal area is definitely on the up."
Councillor Rachel Walker, cabinet member for environment, said: "Walsall Council is committed to ensuring a clean and green borough and this investment is great news for residents of Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore.
"But we need everyone's help to keep our communities looking not just good, but great. The best way of doing this is not to drop litter in the first place and we'd urge people to dispose of their rubbish considerately."
Tom Perrett Chair of Walsall's New Deal said; "I am delighted; projects such as this take our message of excellence out onto the streets where people live work and play. This is a good example of what partnership working can achieve".

Editors notes:
The sweeper was purchased with Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore Local Environmental Action Project (BLEAP) capital funds.
BLEAP is a community-led New Deal project aimed at encouraging residents to get more involved in improving, managing and maintaining their local environment.
With a total of one and half million pounds from a number of sources dedicated to the project over a three-year period, BLEAP is designed to act as a catalyst for the delivery of environmental improvements across the area.
Walsall's New Deal for Communities is a regeneration initiative working in the areas of Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore. The initiative received a £52 million Government grant from the Department for Communities and Local Government (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) to be spent on sustainable regeneration spread over a ten year period that commenced 2001. |
