New Deal hosts
National Conference

Walsall's New Deal will host a National Residents Conference titled '2011 and beyond' on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd April.

Walsall's New Deal residents have been working with the support of Urban Forum to organise the 2009 event entitled; 2011 and beyond, a New Deal for Communities National Conference for Residents.

For the past 8 years Urban Forum has been working closely with residents in New Deal for Communities areas to provide support, skill sharing and networking opportunities. The NDC Residents' Conference is the only opportunity that NDC residents from all 39 partnerships have to meet each other, learn from successful approaches that have been adopted, raise concerns and share experiences.

Margaret Rowley, Chair of the conference steering group at New Deal said;
"This conference will give us an opportunity to put the work of Walsall's New Deal firmly on the national map. Our visitors will be shown around our area visiting a range of initiatives such as the Blakenall Village Centre, Leamore Park, and Bloxwich Market. This is an important event for Walsall and we are aiming to send people away at the end of the conference with positive views of our work and Walsall".

The conference also provides an opportunity for residents to contribute to Urban Forum's policy work, by identifying the concerns and experiences common to many NDC resident volunteers and suggesting strategies to enhance their effectiveness in delivering regeneration. The event is for residents only with the workshop facilitators and contributors being NDC residents. This really is a unique event.

Urban Forum is a national charity and a membership organisation that supports communities to have a greater say over decisions that affect them. Working with members to influence government policy and supporting them to influence decision making locally, Urban Forum acts as a bridge between policy-makers and community groups by gathering evidence and feeding back to their members. www.urbanforum.org.uk
