'Residents Celebrate Environmental Improvements'

The Millfield Avenue, Smith and Thomas House Residents are inviting the community to come and join in their celebrations on Saturday the 29th November between 10am and 3pm in the communal areas to Smith and Thomas House flats.

The residents will be celebrating the completion of improvements to the communal areas that include a new play area, a ball court, a youth shelter, new car parking spaces, pathways, lighting and the re-landscaping of the shrub, grass and tree planted areas.

The celebration day will begin with the Mayor of Walsall Cllr. Tom Ansell, opening the event, followed by a friendly five aside football match with teams made up of residents, Walsall Housing Group, G. Purchase, Walsall's New Deal and local young people.

There will also be face painting for the young children, music, dance and cheerleading.

Walsall Council has worked alongside the Residents Group, Walsall's New Deal and Walsall Housing Group to design and bring about the improvements to the areas around the two blocks of flats.

The work have been complimented by recent refurbishment of Smith House and Thomas House flats undertaken by Walsall Housing Group and their contractors G. Purchase.

The Mayor of Walsall said: I am delighted to be invited along to officially open the new facilities at Smith House and Thomas House.

"Walsall Council officers have worked closely with the Millfield Avenue, Smith and Thomas House Residents Association and partners - Walsall Housing Group and New Deal - to secure funding from the EVOLVE regional housing fund and the VIEW fund to deliver the £590,000 worth of improvements."

John Walters's chair of Millfield Avenue, Smith and Thomas House Residents Association said; "The area looks brilliant and we hope this will bring the community together and create opportunities for more intergenerational work. The youth facilities will provide somewhere for young people to take part in different activities. We would like to thank everyone involved and hope to continue working together".
