As part of this year's Blakenall in Bloom campaign local schools; Elmore Green, Green Rock, Harden, Little Bloxwich took part in a Litter Awareness poster competition, that was supported by Walsall's New Deal and Blakenall Traders.

Children taking part in the Wildlife After School Project (WASP) 'Want not? Waste not' project designed posters that would help to get the message out about the problems that litter causes and encourage them to take action to clean up their school grounds by designing posters to spread the 'clean up' message.

Alex Owen, aged eight, from Elmore Green Primary School won the competition with his Dalek inspired 'Exterminate Litter' poster

Julia Morris, Neighbourhood Nature Project Officer, who judged the competition said, "Alex's poster was the most original, and eye catching with a simple message using a modern theme that would appeal to both adults and children".

Blakenall in Bloom is a neighbourhood award entry aimed at cleaning and greening up the local area sponsored by Bellway Homes to the tune of £5,000. The campaign is being co-ordinated by Walsall's New Deal Neighbourhood Nature team, a locally based environmental project that is supported by local community groups, Christ Church Blakenall, children's centres and local schools and businesses.
