Multi skilled craftswoman shows her paintings at the New Atrium Gallery






Margaret Copland will be showing her work at the Blakenall Village Centre's New Atrium Gallery
Margaret Copland, or Meg to her friends, will be showing her work at the Blakenall Village Centre's New Atrium Gallery from Friday 6th April to Saturday 19th May 2007.

Meg born and brought up on a farm in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and was educated at the local village school, she began her career as a kilt maker in Aberdeen, serving a 5 year apprenticeship in bespoke tailoring, and travelling 25 miles each way!

She married a local boy and moved to Birmingham in 1965 to become a policeman's wife, after having 2 children, the family moved to Brownhills in 1972.

Following a 4 year City Guilds course in Dressmaking, Pattern Cutting and Fashion, at Stafford Art College, achieving grade Meg attended Walsall College of Arts and Technology and qualified as an adult education tutor.

Meg regards herself as a craftswoman having learnt many skills and has worked in a wide range of materials such as leather, metal for jewellery making, embroidery and anything connected with sewing, the love of her life.

Meg is addicted to learning and is at the moment very interested in digital photography and how to manipulate and enhance photographs saying; "I have now found out that you can NEVER trust a photo".
Listing her interests as her 2 children and grand-daughter, her many craft activities she is always busy, and of course painting which she says; "I never thought I would be able to do, as I was told by my art teacher at school that I couldn't draw".

"About 8 years ago I decided to give it a try, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner".

Meg is a member of the Walsall Society of Amateur Artists and a longstanding committee member of the Burntwood Women's Institute.

Margaret Copland's exhibition runs from Friday 6th April until Saturday 19th May 2007.

The initiative received a £52 million Government grant from the Department for Communities and Local Government (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) to be spent on sustainable regeneration spread over a ten year period that commenced 2001.
