Mayor agrees to
open Festival







Walsall's New Deal for communities is pleased to announce that the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Melvin Pitt has agreed to officially open the Blakenall and Leamore Festival on Saturday 16th June 2007

The Mayor, accompanied by Tom Perrett MBE, Chair of Walsall's New Deal and Ray Walters, Chair of the Friends of Leamore Park will launch the day by releasing balloons to celebrate the regeneration of Leamore Park and the launch of the Charter for Equity, Diversity and Community Cohesion for Walsall's New Deal.

On Saturday 16th June the Friends of Leamore Park and Walsall's New Deal will be celebrating the diversity and communities of our area, in Leamore Park Blakenall Lane the main park in the Blakenall area. On the day you will be able to:
  • Sign up for the Bowls or Tennis Club
  • Enter a team in the 3 x 3 football competition
  • Have a go at 'Town Crying' with The Great Barr Bellman
  • Take part in skateboarding competitions run by Walsall's WS2 Skate Park
  • Have a go on the climbing wall
  • Contribute your photo to the Face of Blakenall
  • Have a health check with Walsall tPCT Health Promotions Team
  • Find out about the Fire Service who will be attending with Fire Tender and 'Smoke tent', you can find out what it's like to be in a smoke filled room!
  • Donkey Rides.
  • Have a look at a Territorial Army Land Rover
  • Have a go at winning prizes on the New Deal Wheelers 'Go Ride' time trial.
  • Enjoy the Pat Collins Fun Fair........
The Community Village will be host to a wide range of voluntary groups who will be sharing what they do, running fundraising and information stalls.

Main arena events;
The popular K9 Crazy Dog Agility group
Asian/Greek fusion Dance from 'Aloud' New Deals dance group and at 5.00pm the Cup Final, where two local youth football teams will be playing for the Pauline Merrick Memorial Cup.

The redevelopment of Leamore Park has been funded by Walsall's New Deal:New Horizons.

Walsall's New Deal for Communities is a regeneration initiative working in the areas of Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore. The initiative received a £52 million Government grant from the Department for Communities and Local Government (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) to be spent on sustainable regeneration spread over a ten year period that commenced 2001.
