Medicinal Garden...

On Wednesday 30th May at 11.30am, Walsall's New Deal will be officially opening its new Medicinal Garden.

The garden which is in the grounds of the prestigious Blakenall Village Centre is located next to the centre for Complementary Therapy and the Horizon Restaurant and will provide a tranquil place for centre users, local residents and staff.

The Complementary Therapy team said; "We are delighted with the development of the Medicinal Garden. Aromatic plants are the source of essential oils used in aromatherapy practice and many herbs which are edible are known to be beneficial for health and wellbeing. It will provide a pleasant and relaxing environment for patients and their carers to visit when attending the centre".

The garden, the first of its kind in the midlands, is stocked with a range of medicinal and culinary plants such as Chamomile, Lavender, Feverfew and Lily of the Valley some of which are aromatic, or edible, others having curative properties.

Chef Steve Carroll is already planning to use herbs grown in the garden in his recipes for the Horizon Restaurant.

Tom Perrett Chairman of Walsall's New Deal said, "This garden will further enhance the range of support services for our users, providing a quiet place for people visiting our centre to sit and enjoy the plants, or to meet.
