Mori success for
Walsall's New Deal

On Wednesday 31st January Walsall’s New Deal : New Horizons board considered the results of the recently completed Household Survey commissioned by the Department for Communities and Local Government and undertaken by IPSOS Mori the independent survey people.

The aim of the report presented by Paul Rowlands chief executive of New Deal, was to inform board members of the excellent and very encouraging results of the survey on New Deals work in the areas of Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore in Walsall.

The Government through the Department for Communities and Local Government, commissioned IPSOS MORI to undertake a national evaluation on all of the 39 New Deal for Communities initiatives across England. The New Deal programme is the most evaluated regeneration programme currently being run by the government.

As part of the National Evaluation, IPSOS MORI have, every two years since 2000 undertaken a Household Survey in each of the New Deal areas. In each of the areas 500 household interviews are conducted. The latest survey was conducted during 2006 and the results for Walsall have now become available. The significance of the survey is that the Survey Group has remained the same over the years in order that their attitudes and responses can be tracked over a period of time.

Tom Perrett chairman of Walsall's New Deal said; "This is excellent news, the survey clearly demonstrates the improvements we and our partners are making to the area and more important, that the community clearly acknowledge this".

Paul Rowlands, chief executive of Walsall's New Deal said; "This builds on and strengthens our success in the past surveys, improvement since the last survey in 2004 has been significant. The board, staff and our partners richly deserve praise for the hard work they are doing in regenerating the area. It can be seen from the survey that the partnership is driving forward changes that are highly visible and have meaning for our residents."

"The survey clearly shows that the partnership has come along way since 2004, and it shows that we have achieved 'better than average' improvements, Walsall's New Deal is particularly pleased with the high level of satisfaction with our work and improvements to quality of life".
