Margaret McAtominey and David Allott at the Blakenall Village Centre's Atrium Gallery

Margaret McAtominey and David Allott at the Blakenall Village Centre's Atrium Gallery

Walsall's New Deal welcomes Margaret and David to the Blakenall Village Centre's Atrium Gallery; both Open University graduates and art enthusiasts.

Margaret McAtominey is a local artist who has been painting for over 30yrs. Her first love was painting in oils. Since then she has worked in a range of media and still finds oils her favourite.

In 1989 Margaret graduated from the Open University, her major subject was Art History.

Margaret has studied with a number of working artists. For the past twelve years she has been a regular student at the Wedgwood Memorial College, Barlaston, near Stoke on Trent, where her tutor is Jack Skinner (former head of Fine Art, Stoke University).

David Allott has a life long commitment to art; taking 'A' levels in 1985. After retiring from his profession as a police officer he went on to study with the Open College of Art (OU), completing four years of fine art courses, whilst at the same time studying life drawing and painting at the Mappin Gallery, Sheffield.

David regularly attends refresher courses in fine art at the Wedgwood Memorial College. He also teaches private pupils in his home studio and to a large U3A (University of the Third Age) group in Sheffield. He regularly visits exhibitions in this and other countries and has given demonstrations in oil painting to art groups in Sheffield.

Both Margaret and David have been greatly influenced by the Impressionists, in particular Van Gogh, Monet and Cézanne.

Over the past three years Margaret and David have worked closely together and have often produced very different interpretations of the same subject matter. They have recently completed a 6 picture commission in abstract art for a finance company based in Chesterfield.

Margaret and David will be exhibiting their work from 7th November until 3rd January 2009.
