Pam Renhard
Ex - local teacher Pam Renhard goes solo to show her work at the New Atrium Gallery at the Blakenall Village Centre.
Pam born and brought up locally, attending Harden Junior school where she entered, and won her first and only painting competition at the age of ten. This was a view across the lea looking onto the front of Goscote Hospital.
Following primary school teacher training in Sheffield, Pam returned to Walsall where she thoroughly enjoyed teaching at the North Walsall Junior School and followed by Priory Primary School in Leamore.
Pam said: "Art has always been my main interest and it was one of the subjects for which I had a responsibility during my teaching career. I always tried to encourage an enjoyment of art for all my pupils, allowing them to experience and experiment with as many art mediums as possible".
Pam took early retirement from teaching in 2002 due to ill health, this has allowed her to fulfil a promise to herself, to allow time to attempt water colour painting. Pam, encouraged, by her family, joined an art class at the Hawbush Centre where she finds painting alongside like-minded friends very motivating.
Pam is a member of the Walsall Society for Artists and has had paintings accepted for their past three Christmas exhibitions at Walsall Art Gallery.
Pam works mainly from photographs, sometimes using the direct image or digitally enhancing or manipulating them before setting to work with the paint.
Pam said; "I have never consciously worked to themes, I just paint what pleases me, seeing each image as a fresh challenge. I have recently set myself a further challenge, that of using acrylics and I am enjoying the challenges that the medium offers".
"My last few paintings are evident of a different ways of working. I have poured and splashed paint on to the paper or canvas to create a background on which to work. I’ve masked out shapes created by the flow of the paint before pouring again or painted into the shapes that I see".
