'Rogue Drivers' taken off
the road.
'Rogue drivers' in the Blakenall area 'got a shock' when they were pulled over in a very effective campaign led by the locally based Blakenall Police Beat team.
On Tuesday 4th April, the local beat team, brought in the support of specialist officers to run an ANPR event, (automatic number plate recognition). The ANPR checks vehicle registrations against national data bases.
The team operated for 8 hours from 2pm to10pm, near to the junction of Bloxwich Road and Harden Road.
The initiative checked every vehicle that passed through the area, 3,733 number plates. The system identifies cars used in crime, cars that are unlawful in terms of tax, insurance or being un-roadworthy.
As a result of stopping the cars the officers then check the occupants, this can lead to persons who are wanted for crime being arrested.
As a result of this initiative, 43 vehicles were stopped, of which 9 of the vehicles were un-roadworthy, untaxed or uninsured and 1 was a disqualified driver who was arrested.
Inspector Amanda McPhee said; "It is our intention to keep the pressure on those irresponsible people who drive vehicles that are a danger to the public and not taxed and insured, so we have booked 3 more similar exercises for April and May at locations in the New Deal area.
Sgt. Craig Smith of the Blakenall Beat Team said; "We are very pleased with the outcome of this initiative, it is our mission to make the New Deal area a safer place to live, work and play, so inconsiderate drivers and illegal vehicles will not be tolerated".
