Sports Relief 2008









On Friday 14th March, Walsall's New Deal will be teaming up with Shelfield and Willenhall Sports Partnership to invite local schools to compete in a mile long orienteering course in the newly refurbished Leamore Park.

The event will be take place between 9.00hrs - 15.00hrs at Leamore Park, Blakenall Lane, Blakenall. The Friends of Leamore Park will be acting as volunteers and providing refreshments on the day.

Local schools will be competing against each other in this Sport Relief Challenge with the quickest and most accurate around the circuit to win.

The event will consist of staggered starts for the different schools throughout the day. Pupils will have up to 45 minutes to try and find all of the 20 control points in the correct order as fastest as they can.

Participants are donating a minimum of £1.00 each to take part. The event is expected to involve over 250 pupils get fit and healthy while raising hundreds of pounds for a noble cause both within the UK and abroad.

Schools taking part in the event include; Harden Primary School; Blakenall Heath Junior School; Leamore Primary School; Edgar Stammers Primary School; North Walsall Primary School and St. James Primary School.

Walsall's New Deal for Communities is a regeneration initiative working in the areas of Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore. The initiative received a £52 million Government grant from the Department for Communities and Local Government (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) to be spent on sustainable regeneration spread over a ten year period that commenced 2001.
