Building safer, stronger communities

David Benbow, Walsall's New Deal Crime & Community Safety Theme Manager is holding weekly surgeries to promote Stronger, Safer Communities in the Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore areas of Walsall.

The surgeries are starting on 13th May between 12:00 noon and 14:00 hrs at the Blakenall info Centre, and David is already thinking of providing more surgeries in other venues around the area.

The surgeries will be a chance for residents to come and speak about any community safety issues they may have.

Crime prevention advice will be available as well as information on current projects running within the Crime and Community Theme in the New Deal area.

David said; "I would encourage anyone with any issues to come to the surgeries, or if passing by, to pop in for a chat, my aim is to be as accessible to our residents as possible. In working to create Stronger and Safer Communities I will be encouraging local people to work together and to use the services available to them."

Part of David's role is to have an impact on the 'fear of crime' and look at reducing the reassurance gap, the difference between what people think is happening their perceptions, and the what is actually happening.

David went onto say; "With our neighbourhood police beat team being based at the Blakenall info Centre and their commitment to provide accessible policing services to the local community, we already have a strong base for the delivery of the main elements that will promote a Safer, Stronger community for everyone."
