Temporary Car park in Blakenall Heath






Walsall's New Deal are pleased to announce that a temporary 30 space car park will be available within the Blakenall Heath Shopping Centre from Wednesday 5th April 2006.

TThe car park will be located on the land adjacent to Mountfords News on Blakenall Lane and will provide much needed car parking space to visitors of the shopping area.

The temporary car park has been has been funded by Walsall's New Deal with contributions from Walsall Council, and is a part of phase one of the regeneration of the Blakenall Heath shopping area, the land having been made available by the council.

The car park has been provided on a temporary basis pending consideration of the future redevelopment of the land.

To celebrate the refurbishment of Blakenall Heath Shopping Centre, Walsall's New Deal in partnership with the Blakenall Traders will be running a 'fun day' in the shopping centre, on Easter Friday, 14th April, 12 until 5pm. Please contact the Communications Team for more information.

Editors notes:

The phase one improvements regenerated the Blakenall Heath shopping centre by:
  • creating a one-way, traffic calmed village centre which prioritises pedestrian safety and encourages more pedestrian use;
  • the creation of 50 formal on street car parking spaces along Blakenall Lane and on Blakenall Heath
  • vastly improve the appearance of the buildings, surfaces, spaces and facilities along the streets of the centre; and
  • installation of designed street furniture which reflects local tradition and the community of Blakenall Heath the scheme also includes planters
  • the installation of 2 new bus shelters
  • relocation and building of new toilet facilities
  • under 7's play area
  • reinstatement of the village green area.
Walsall's New Deal for Communities is a regeneration initiative working in the areas of Blakenall, Bloxwich East and Leamore. The initiative received a £52 million Government grant from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to be spent on sustainable regeneration spread over a ten year period that commenced 2001.
