'Junior Chefs serve
the Board!'

On Wednesday 19th April young people in Blakenall prepared a special 3 course meal for the 24 resident board members and the Chief Executive of Walsall's New Deal as a part of their Youth Achievement and Youth Challenge Awards.

The five young people, Karla Hasketh, Sean Hasketh, Tammy Stonnard, Luke O'Neill, Thomas Whiting, have already participated in a project called 'Chefs' Special' organised by Walsall's New Deal's Young Persons Liaison Team.

This initiative involved the young people in working with the chef, Stephen Carroll, in the Blakenall Village Centre's state of the art kitchen, preparing the menus, cooking the food and serving the meals.

Stephen Carroll, Catering Manager of the Horizon Restaurant said, "The meal was excellent and enjoyed by everyone. This initiative was designed to help the young people to develop a range of skills, from preparation to presentation. Serving the meals to the board members and the chief executive was the icing on the cake for the young people who have worked very hard on this project".

"It was a wonderful meal prepared to a high standard. I enjoyed sampling the food. I think we have some local master chefs in the making!" said Paul Rowlands, Chief Executive of Walsall's New Deal.

If you are interested for any more information regarding the ‘Chef’s Special’ project please contact Gail Beeley at the Blakenall info Centre on 01922 711228.
