Community Empowerment
Our Vision
To develop an independent self sustaining and confident community, that has the resources and capacity to develop its own projects; that builds upon a strong, independent community and voluntary sector that values and encourages the contribution of young people to the regeneration of the New Deal areas of Blakenall, Bloxwich East and Leamore.
Our Strategic Objectives
- To increase the confidence and capacity of residents and groups to participate actively in their community through structures that are supported and maintained.
- To build the capacity of community led service providers to plan and deliver activities and programmes to meet local needs.
- To engage with the voluntary and community sector organisations that are based outside of the New Deal area in Walsall, and those that are national providers in order that they may invest their expertise and resources to provide a more diverse range of support services for the community.
- Raise awareness of the New Deal programme in order to enable a greater number of residents to become involved in the regeneration of the New Deal area.
- To enable young people individually and collectively to have a greater say in decisions that effect their community
Our Targets for 2011
- Reduce the number of Young People identified as being as risk to the National average
- Reduce the proportion of young people who state that they had been victims of crime to 10% higher than the National level
- Increase the number of residents involved in community activities to 20%
- Reduce the number of young people aged 13-17 involved in anti-social behaviour and disorder by 40%
- Raise the profile and support given to community groups, organisations and resident groups within the New Deal area.
Our Projects
Neighbourhood Nature
Although technically not a project this activity involves the secondment of a worker from Neighbourhood Nature who provides opportunities and activities for local people to take an interest and involvement in the green space within the NDC. Working with young and old this actively helps to encourage residents to take an active role in the core of ND:NH and connects them with their environment.
For more information regarding the project please contact Julia Morris, Neighbourhood Nature Officer on (01922) 711228.
Young Person's Information Centre
The Young Person's information Centre's focus will be to raise the aspirations of young people by offering easier access to services. It will house several projects that will compliment each other in their delivery, I T Centre (E- learning), Café, Training Kitchen, Mini College, Youth Clinic and Careers advice.
This project lies under the ownership of Walsall's New Deal Young Persons Council and the focus of this activity is based on their priorities.
The Young Person's information Centre is a project that will offer young people between 11 and 19 years, within the New Deal and surrounding areas, easier access to services for young people provided in one central location within their neighbourhood.
The centre will not only offer activities on site but also will signpost young people to other opportunities that are available to them across the borough, breaking down the geographical; barriers and encouraging them to investigate the opportunities that are available to them.

Walsall's New Deal Youth Council
The Youth Council is made up of young people aged 11 years plus who represent the voices of young people within the New Deal area of Blakenall, Bloxwich and Leamore. We meet regularly and discuss issues that affect young people. We also plan and organise events/activities, encouraging participation from young people in the area to develop projects that are relevant to them, enabling them to have a say and genuine input in their future.

Accorn Fund
Walsall's New Deal Acorn Fund has been in operate since 2001 and during this time has helped to support over 200 community & voluntary groups in our area.
The fund has been set up to strengthen and increase community activity, to build on the abilities of the community and voluntary groups to make the New Deal area a better place to live, work and socialise in.
