Education & Learning
Our Vision
Our vision is for our community to value education and to see it as a means of increasing their life choices and of feeling positive about themselves and their place in the world.
Our Strategic Objectives
The Education Strategy for New Deal New Horizons is to focus intervention to support the community to value and participate in education and celebrate achievement, and on the schools and educational institutions serving the area to improve participation and attainment.
- Work in partnership with the statutory and voluntary bodies serving the area and, in adding value to their work, will aim to maximise the extra resources brought into the area.
- Work to the highest standards and aim to bring educational participation, achievement and attainment levels within the area up to comparable national levels.
- Target our interventions at identified gaps and according to agreed priorities.
- Work at the level of schools, institutions and organisations serving the area, and will introduce means of tracking attainment, participation and achievement at an individualised level as a means of monitoring our interventions.
- Work in open and participative ways with our community and with our partners.
- Utilise our resources through two main strands: - Community and Schools (and other institutions), targeting interventions within these strands where gaps in achievement, participation and attainment are identified.
Our Targets for 2011
- Increase proportion of children attaining Level 4 or above at KS2 to the Walsall Average by 2011
- Increase the proportion of children attaining 5 GCSEs grades A*-G to the national average by 2011
- With City Academy, convergence with national benchmark level for 5 GCSEs A*-C with comparable schools (band E);
- Without City Academy, pass rate of 28% by 2011
- Decrease the proportion of children attaining no GCSEs to the national average by 2011
- Increase the proportion of children attending school to the national average by 2011
- Decrease the proportion of children excluded to the national average by 2011
