Our Vision
"Create a local environment that will be really attractive, where people will be proud to live and work"
Our Strategic Objectives
The objectives of the Housing and Environment Theme are to
- Create a local environment that will be really attractive, where "people will be proud to live and work"
- Create a place where people choose to live, where quality services are provided and where residents are actively involved in monitoring service delivery.
Our targets for 2011
- Assist Walsall Council to increase the proportion of vulnerable households in the private sector living in decent homes
- Assist the programme of works to bring Bloxwich Housing Trust and other RSL properties up to the Decent Homes Standard by 2010.
Our Projects
Blakenall Heath Shopping Centre Phase II
This project consists of a series of 18 schemes aimed at improving the public environment on areas near to Blakenall Heath. The project will focus on the delivery of direct, safe and convenient pedestrian linkages between Blakenall Heath shopping centre and the Blakenall Village Centre.
This will be done through the realignment of the highway junction, Ingram Road and Barracks Lane. The improvements will be in the same style as the work already completed in Blakenall, the aim is also to improve economic viability of the existing retail units and the setting of the Public Church.
Leamore Local Centre Improvements
This project consists of a series of schemes aimed at improvements to the public environment in Leamore Shopping Centre.
The project focuses on environmental and infrastructure improvements to the retail units that are in ownership of the authority, which provides essential local services.
In addition the project will deliver improvements to a number of private units whose frontages contribute to Leamore's 'sense of place' and in some cases act as gateway markers for the local centre. The scheme will also create improvements to footpaths which will complement those proposed as part of the 301 Bus Show Case Route.
Leamore Park
In 2006, Walsall's New Deal agreed a package of improvements to the park totalling £830,909.00; the work started in January 2007 and was finished during the summer of 2007. The improvements include the re-instatement of crown green bowling, two tennis courts, a wildlife garden that can be used as an outdoor classroom by local schools, and new formal gardens. Bloxwich Townscape Heritage Initiative
Will repair the fabric, restore authentic details and secure the use of historic buildings and bring back vacant floor space.
Home Buy
This project provides assistance to local households through loans to enable them to go into affordable home ownership. The contract with the delivery agent should be finalised by May 2007.
