How can I become a member?

Come along to a meeting, dates of the meetings are listed below.

What will I have to do as a member?

Attend regular meetings and work with members of the Youth Council to help plan and organise activities/events.

What have New Deal Youth Council so far?

So far we have been involved in lots of different activities/events such as:

Speed Dating Event - Members of the Youth Council and New DealTheme Leaders held a speed dating event so young people could find out more about New Deal projects and what is happening in the area. It was a fun way to meet staff, find out what they do and how young people can be involved.

Pauline Merrick Memorial Fund - This fund has been developed to benefit children and young people in the area. The Youth Council have been key in the development of the fund, working with officers and Board Members. We have been involved in training to learn how to assess an application and understand decision making, but also delivered training. Some of the Youth Council are part of the panel which assess applications for the funding.

Children in Need - Members of the Youth Council took part in fundraising and organised a car wash, sponsored events such as guessing how many sweets in a jar and sitting in a bath of custard. The day was great fun and we can't wait to come up with more crazy activities!

Bloxwich Carnival - Members of the Youth Council have taken part in the carnival for the last 2 years, which has involved planning a theme, helping to design and decorate a float and dressing up as part of the parade. This year we did the Pirates of the Caribbean theme which was lots of fun to do.

Training - We have taken part in different types of training to help us develop and take part in activities/events. The training is fun and we get the chance to get involved and share our opinions.

Playschemes - The Youth Council assisted in planning and organising the summer playschemes for 8-12 year olds. This involved us interviewing art workers and deciding what types of workshops to have. The young people on the interview panel were tough, so watch out Sir Alan Sugar you could have competition!

There is so much more so come along to the next meeting to learn more.
